- I would like to take a look at the “Children as Leaders” resource to get some ideas on how to involve parents and caregivers into SEL. I think building this support system is a great idea- maybe getting PTA or Connected Community Schools involved
- I hate to admit that this is the first time I have heard of CASEL. I think it is so important for leaders in education to realize the significance of SEL in our children today! I like how the student in the video talked about how SEL “gives kids purpose”. Nothing else matters if the kids don’t feel a purpose in school.
- I like the diagram illustrating the areas that SEL can support (beyond academic achievement), such as career readiness, equity, mental health and being civic-minded. We are not just helping kids while at school, but in a lifetime…
- I agree with the results of the poll that Mental Health is my priority for advancing through SEL. I feel that mental health needs to be addressed in order for a child to have any success.
- I was not familiar with the competencies of CASEL. I like how it is broken down into self-awareness, social awareness, and then decision-making. This really covers all aspects of how we attack SEL.
- I think we need to work harder to build our settings. I know that I cover many aspects in my classroom, but I think we are lacking in the carry-over to the school, families, and community… this is a big task, but worth taking on!
