How Privileged Are You? Check(list) Your Privilege

The option I chose was the "How Privileged are you checklist". I went through the list and checked many of the boxes. According to my results I checked more boxes than 73% of quiz takers. I checked 61/100 of the boxes. Which states that I am quite privileged. I've never thought of myself of being privileged but according to the checklist I am. I've had a few struggles, but overall my life has been far easier than most. This is not a bad thing, nor is it something to be ashamed of. But it also means that I should be aware of my advantages and work to help others who don't have them. I have never considered myself privileged after looking at the checklist I may have to rethink what privileged really means. Growing up I was repeatedly ridiculed for my weight even though I was in now way heavy. I think it has lead to my unrealistic view of my self. I have gotten better the older I get but it has been a struggle to see myself as others see me. My hope is that I can help my students so the same and not have a negative view of themselves.

How Privileged Are You?

I chose to do the “How Privileged Are You?” checklist.  I went through the list and checked quite a lot of the items off.  I’ve never really thought about myself as being privileged, but apparently, I am.  My results are as follows: “70/100 Checked.  You checked more than 89% of quiz takers. You're quite privileged. You've had a few struggles, but overall your life has been far easier than most. This is not a bad thing, nor is it something to be ashamed of. But you should be aware of your advantages and work to help others who don't have them. Thank you for checking your privilege.”  My results made me take a step back and think.  I have had my struggles, but I guess overall my life has been pretty smooth.  I’ve never really have had any problems with other people, and am generally accepted by others.  I have been bullied as a teen in the seventh grade, and every summer for years now I do get offputting comments about the way I look.  I would like to help others feel more comfortable with who they are and help them have some of the privileges that I think nothing of having.
