The pathological system for asthma starts when an individual inhales the allergens from the bad air. The article, Pathology of Asthma by Makoto Kudo, Yoshiaki Ishigatsubo, and Ichiro Aoki talks about how asthma starts in the human body. They state, "These inhaled allergens stimulate T helper type 2 (Th2) cell proliferation, subsequently Th2 cytokines, interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5 and IL-3 production and release. Many basic and clinical studies suggested that airway inflammation was a central key to the disease pathophysiology" (2010). I believe that this can relate to the air pollution topic that we covered in NSCI.
