According to the article, hydraulic fracking bring risks to the surrounding ecosystems. An ecosystems health has an increased risk of being affected by the fracking process depending on how close it is to that fracking site. In order to reduce these risks, strategic monitoring is suggested. Although this process brings a lot of natural gas and oil that can be used for our benefit, scientists must monitor the chemicals being put into this process and make sure it is not damaging to the surrounding ecosystems. One study was done at Fayetteville Shale Play in Arkansas. They concluded that the fracking process did have an impact on water quality on the nearby watershed (Burton, 2014)
