According to Peter Kandela's article, “Pollution”, from The Lancet, a European medical journal, pollution does not just affect the air but also the noise-levels of the environment. The more congestion there is of people and automobiles, the more pollution witch results in an increase in noise-levels. Congestion also leads to “lack of accessory nutritional factors, exercise, sunlight, and fresh air”. The article discussed various problems that London has had because of pollution throughout history. London saw a variety of problems such as illnesses due to issues with the sewer system, and noise pollution which resulted in, according to the author, “the loss of efficiency and energy” of the workplace. It was an interesting read and had many of the health and environmental consequences, due to pollution, that we learned about in our course.
