How will it work?
This offering is a blended model, meaning there is opportunity for face-to-face instruction through the early release days, as well as online learning between sessions.  
The content delivered during the face-to-face will be foundational to the additional optional activities you can complete online. These online activities will also focus on the Digital Learning Competencies which are now required by the state for renewal starting in June 2019.

At the conclusion of the learning series, you will receive credit for the face-to-face sessions (.6 CEUs). If you finish the online extension activities, you will earn 1 Digital Learning Competency CEU as well as a micro-credential for this area! Read more about micro-credentials here.
What are the goals of this Learning Series?
  • In the Personalized Learning Series you will....
  • Understand the concept of learner agency.
  • Be able to implement the concepts of the Learner Profile section of the JCPS Personalized Learning Framework.
  • Begin to develop learning structures that allow for and encourage learner agency.
What you will learn in the Face to Face?
  • In the Personalized Learning Series you will....
  • Explore the concept of learner agency and how it increased student engagement.
  • Understand how to implement the learner profile & student self-data tracking to assist you in creating personalized learning activities.
  • Understand how to structures to allow students to be more self-directed learners.
What Digital Learning Competencies Standards will be addressed in the Micro-Credential?
  • Each component of the online portion will have: 1) Initial Learning, 2) Implementation, and 3) Reflection elements.  In order to earn the credit you will be expected to complete all the elements for each component.
  • In the Micro-Credential portion of this Learning Series you will address the following Digital Learning Competencies...
  • Option 1 - Data and Assessment, Stand 4
    • Utilize technology and digital tools to synthesize and apply qualitative and quantitative data to: ● Create individual learner profiles of strengths, weaknesses, interests, skills, gaps, preferences. ● Inform, personalize, and calibrate individual learning experiences. ● Identify specific plans of action related to weaknesses, gaps, and needed skills as identified in the learner profile. ● Reflect and improve upon instructional practice.
  • Option 2 - Digital Content and Instruction, Stand 2
    • Lead all students in becoming active participants in setting educational goals, managing learning, and assessing their progress through digital tools.
What are the submission guidelines & evaluation criteria?
  • Module 1
    • Option 1 - Your submission requires that you choose an area from the Individualization v. Differentiation v. Personalization chart or the Stages of Personalized Learning Environments to to find an area of practice to shift towards improving learner agency. In order to document your learning and receive credit for the Digital Learning Competency, you may:
      • Upload a video in which you explain and demonstrate the shift that you made in your classroom.
      • Use Google Slides to make a presentation that includes several pictures and explains that shift that you made in your class.
    • Option 2 - Your submission requires that you use the student goal setting sheet demonstrated in the video in the face to face session. In order to document your learning and receive credit for the Digital Learning Competency, you may:
      • Upload a video of your conference with a student in which you go over their answers to the student goal setting sheet.
      • Create a Google Doc in which you embed a picture of one of the student goal setting sheets. Next, explain what you learned from the goal setting sheet and how you adjusted your instruction for the student.

Module 1 - Learner Agency
In this module, participants will explore the concept of learner agency and allowing students to own their learning.
Participant will have the opportunity to earn Digital Learning Competency credit and a JCPS Microcredential by implementing strategies to increase learning agency in their classroom.
Module 2 - Learner Profiles and Planning for Student Voice, Choice and Flexible-Pacing
In this module, participants will learn more about the Learner Profile section of the JCPS Personalized Learning Framework as well as how to plan for a unit of instruction that includes student voice, choice and flexible-pacing.  
Participant will have the opportunity to earn Digital Learning Competency credit and a JCPS Microcredential by implementing strategies to from the Learner Profile section of the JCPS Personalized Learning Framework or by designing a unit of instruction that includes that incorporates concepts of learner agency.
Module 3 - Personalized Learning Paths
In this module, participants will learn more about the Personalized Learning Paths section of the JCPS Personalized Learning Framework. This session will connect the concepts learned in the previous two modules to instruction and how to build student voice, choice and self-pacing into lesson design.
Participant will have the opportunity to earn Digital Learning Competency credit and a JCPS Microcredential by implementing strategies to from the Personalized Learning Paths section of the JCPS Personalized Learning Framework.
