In this webinar, I learned all about how to teach digital literacy to my future students. I learned strategies for teaching them to understand real news versus fake news. I learned all about teaching them how to speak up when they encounter online bullying or something inappropriate. There are steps that teachers can take to help students get on track to understanding that there can be a lot of disinformation and misinformation online. You have to be able to think critically and analyze what you are seeing/reading to be able to decide if it is accurate and reliable information or not. There is a framework for teaching digital literacy with 7 essential skills that students should have. These would be beneficial to teach, especially in an upper elementary or secondary school setting. I would teach a more simple version to younger children (I am early childhood ed), but I would definitely still teach these things because children are online at young ages and it would be a good idea to have these things already ingrained in them from an early age.
