As a future English Language Arts educator, literature is incredibly important. Choosing a children's book or a YA book is a huge decision in terms of what each may connote to my students. When I was in middle school, for example, my teacher used children's books to present a simple metaphor which, as Dr. Cullen suggested, allowed us to brainstorm things to write about. In turn, we could create our own stories using Book Creator or other apps like it.
