I created this assignment during Covid, since that is when emailing became an essential way to communicate for students. I still use this!

Student Application

I am not able to complete this at this moment, however in the fall I am going to use this as my first assignment.  I feel that it is important that students email me when they will be missing from class or missing a quiz, etc.  Some students know how to appropriately start the email, but others do not so I think that this will be a meaningful way to start the year.  Although having so many emails day one will not be the best for me, but it will be worth it!

Lesson Plan

Bell Ringer: ¿Cómo escribes un correo electronico? How do you write an email?

Vocabulary: Review vocabulary associated with writing/sending an email.

In Spanish class it is part of the BOCES Checkpoint Exam to read, comprehend, and respond to an email entirely in the target language.  Students practices several time throughout the year reading comprehension skills and writing skills in the target language.

Partner Activity: Read the Spanish email from your Pen Pal.  Highlight important information and questions you need to answer/respond to in the text.

Independent Activity: Using notes for the theme or topic, formulate a written response (an email) back to your Pen Pal.  Use appropriate Spanish headings, greetings, and salutations.  Answer all questions in complete sentences.

Assignment for students

Self Reflection - Imagine Finding Me
Send me an email (rgrower@hpschools.org) with your responses to the following prompts. Remember to use proper email etiquette, like a subject and salutation.
Look back on your Imagine Finding Me final photograph. Discuss the following topics in your email message:
Proportions/scale - Does your current self seem to be in the correct proportion to your younger self? Pose and placement - Does the image of your current self fit believably in the space of the photo of your younger self? Craftsmanship - How seamlessly were you able to blend the 2 images together? Skills - How well did you use Photoshop applications and techniques? What can I change? Overall - How convincing is your final photo? Will it fool the viewer?

Good Afternoon Mrs. Grower,
After reviewing my image, I believe that my older self looks proportionate to my younger self, in the photo. I am 5’1” and have always been on the short side, so I think that my size in the photo makes sense. I think that my older self fits believably into the older photo. Both how and where I am sitting makes the most sense for the photo I chose. It was pretty easy to blend the photos together, but I had difficulties with my right shoulder(left shoulder if looking at the photo). I used many applications and techniques in order to create the best photo I could. I cut out my newer photo, blurred, added noise and made changes to the lightness, saturation and color of the photo using a color filter. I also put myself behind the chair in the front. I think that in order to improve my photo, I should lighten my face and add more shadows. I think that the final photo is fairly convincing. I think the main issue is with the head area, but from looking at my feedback on the Jamboard, I think my photo looks believable and could trick the viewer.
Have a good day,
Isabella Boulerice
