While reading this article, I can see both views being a parent and an educator. I can see how this activity can make some parents feel uncomfortable. I also see how starting at such a young age is beneficial to do these types of lessons or activities in class. The quote that resonated me the most was "As we prepare young children to be members of the human family, we must offer them opportunities to celebrate all aspects of their identities and to resist bias and oppression." If we don't do these activities or lessons in our classes, how can kids feel like we celebrate their uniqueness, racial biases and cultures? The more we don't include race and racism in our lessons, the more we are saying it's okay to exclude others due their race! According to research from the article, this will just create more kids excluding their peers from other activities or even during play time. That is not what we want. We want kids to feel comfortable and safe.
