SAMR model was created by Dr. Ruben
Puentedura and was based off of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The 4 levels are
substitution, modification, augmentation and redefinition. Substitution is
where you substitute a basic level assignment and substitute technology for,
per say, a paper-pencil assignment. Augmentation is similar but provides an
improvement to enhance the lesson. Modification is where learning
begins to take place as an assignment’s outcome is different and is
collaborative with a world audience. Redefinition allows for creative tasks that
reflect their learning. The original task is significantly changed so that the
learner is engaged and provides a more global audience as well. The goal is to
use the technology as a tool that empowers the learner to use creative tools to
take charge of their learning.
