SAMR video summary
Jenny Shorter
10/05/17
The video is about how education is moving from 20th-century learning to 21st Century learning through the use of technology and how we as teachers can reflect on our teaching strategies to see if we are using technology to its greatest effectiveness. It was created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura and is explained using a ladder. It begins with the bottom rung of Substitution, where there is no real function change. The teacher just “substitutes” a piece of technology for a part of the lesson. It increases in scope from enhancing education with technology through Substitution and Augmentation, all the way up to transforming education through Modification and Redefinition. The top rung of the ladder, Redefinition, is where technology shapes and defines a new way of learning that was not possible a few years back.
