After conducting an equity audit of my classroom curriculum and library, I identified some areas where representation could be stronger, particularly around diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. However, I am grateful that our library media specialist does a wonderful job curating materials that include a wide range of perspectives and voices. Our classroom libraries and curriculum also strive to reflect this commitment to inclusivity by intentionally selecting texts and resources that represent diverse identities and experiences. Moving forward, I will continue to review and update materials regularly to ensure all students see themselves reflected and valued in what we study and read.

I am a Teaching Assistant in the library, and I've seen unique materials and books the students utilize. I've seen a neat variety of books that are diverse and unique to everyone. I believe that students should have the opportunity to learn about unique cultures and backgrounds, and to have a better understanding of these backgrounds. I find that the library is a safe and quiet space for everyone to work quietly and to engage in social interactions. While reading a book of their choice, many students can make connections to their lives. They can relate to the characters and/or the conflicts. Students also seek interest in the fiction genre of their choices, or if they wanted to read a non-fiction book to understand real-life scenarios.
