This article helped me to understand the impacts of computing on the world, and especially on students. It was validating to read that the standardized testing of today is not training children for the future, which is how I often feel. It is important for educators to understand what is happening in the workforce so that the children we teach are prepared. After all, they are the future innovators of this world and the new economy depends on them having the skills they need.
I can share this information with colleagues and give them some ways that they can help kids develop the skills they need to be innovators. The article suggests using Book Creator, which is something I use with my students. I try to give them choice boards for final projects, and that is always a choice on there. It is an easy, versatile way to integrate a technological platoform into the classroom.
