The newsletter is very useful in giving materials and resources to present to students. This will be helpful to teachers as they attempt to meet the standards. I plan to use this and post it in my classroom!

I work in the library and I can Share these tips and standards there. Also, we can make them available through our teacher association meetings and monthly PD hours.

Cybersecurity Newsletter

Wow!  This is a great newsletter!  It is teacher language friendly and it also has some great links and lesson plans attached to each standard to help teachers make sure they are covering all of the topics needed.

Cybersecurity

Since cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing careers, I would share NICCS' website with high school teachers.  Students can look at data of the field and the data of need for these types of jobs.  As teachers we can prepare students for these growing jobs by starting this discussion as early as PreK.  I push its importance to our elementary digital literacy classes and library classes.  In addition, I will share the Cyber Academy website with students so they can watch videos, have discussions, answer questions, play a Kahoot, and the activity sheet.  This seems like a good lessons to do with the younger grades to teach them about cybersecurity.

I could use the websites/activities provided in my classroom, and also share them with colleagues, to teach students about digital safety.

Cybersecurity is something we can be teaching students every time we use technology (and even when we are not).  It is so important for kids to understand the information available on the internet and how to keep their information safe and private.  It is also extremely important for kids to understand why.  I think kids, as well as adults, have an "it can't/won't happen to me attitude" and that can be problematic.   With technology being so prevalent, it is crucial that kids realize that there are risks, and it can happen to them. I used to teach health education and did an entire unit on media literacy.  Many of those skills and activities can translate into digital literacy as well.
