Flip reflection

Flip can help my students share their voice and connect with others by providing feedback and learning in a creative way. This can be used in writing. When students review their peers work, they can give constructive criticism through a video with flip. Students can also answer reading or writing prompts through a video. Even during guided groups, I can have students take a video of themselves reading part of the story and check their fluency and how they decode words. I can also have them use it as an exit ticket to monitor their learning. There are so many other ideas I have, it is very versatile for sure and I can't wait to use this within my classroom. I truly think my students will love it, even the quieter ones.

Flip in the classroom

  1. How can Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others?
  2. What is one idea I have for using Flip in my classroom?
With Flip, students can create engaging and interactive videos that share their ideas, perspectives, and passions. This enables them to express themselves creatively and confidently, without the fear of being judged or criticized.  Students can also "listen" to others in the flip topic and hear what others have to say.

For teachers and students, creating instructional videos would be a great use for flip.  Teachers can create a topic and then fill it with their own view only videos.  Students conversely could individually or in groups create how-to videos on subject matter as a resource for other students.

I enjoyed working with flipgrid

  1. How can Flipgrid help my students share their voice and connect with others?
This gives the student’s options on ways to respond to a topic posted. It’s a way for teachers to initiate a topic and then students respond.

     2.  What is one idea I have for using Flipgrid in my classroom?

I am going to try using this at the start of next school year as a get to know the new students activity.  They will create a short video about themselves and it will allow me and the classmates to get to know their personality!

Flipgrid will be a fun addition to my lesson planning. I think the students will be excited about using it. I'm looking forward to using it.

Flipgrid will be a very useful tool for my students to participate in assignments using their own unique responses. It will give them a chance to have fun at learning new material and lessons already taught. It will give me  the opportunity to connect with my students in a way we haven’t been able to before. One of the problems when we teach virtually the students would not participate or turn their camera off. With flipgrid, they are expected to participate and I think it will be fun to change things up a little. Students are so into technology, they will feel comfortable using flipgrid. One idea I have for using Flipgrid is I will make a weekly homework assignment with a topic and they will have to complete by Friday. My Cosmetology class doesn’t off remote learning, but I feel creating a flipgrid assignment as homework, the students will complete the assignment because it is fun and they can put their own flair in their video responses. In addition, I will know it is them completing the assignment instead of just copying something off the internet.

Reflection Response

Flipgrid is very user friendly and will allow students to be able to participate in class lessons in a different way than normal.  First, they can be more creative.  Second, they can use additional media and to create videos to answer questions.

One idea I have for Flipgrid is having students interview each other to answer questions on a text read in class.  This will allow them to answer the questions, work with others, use a different format to answer, and have FUN!

How can Flipgrid help my students?

The students in my Participation in Government class can benefit most from Flipgrid because they can use it as an outlet to share their views on public policy issues and Supreme Court Case decisions. The students can share the code out to other classmates or even other people within the community to educate them on an issue of importance to them and gather feedback from other individuals. This could create a positive forum for discussion and idea sharing that could also be private. That might be more appropriate for the students instead of them using popular social media apps that a larger portion of the population would have access to. Since politics can be so difficult for people to discuss and multiple viewpoints about issues exist, this outlet could allow productive discussions to happen within a classroom boundary instead of the arguments and shouting that may likely happen in person if every student was to participate.

FlipGrid is a great way for my students to SHOW what they know. I love that I can have students read, respond to questions, share, and demonstrate on FlipGrid. The possibilities are truly endless.  One idea that I have for how to use this is to have students write and deliver speeches that they would give to the Board of Education if they were the main character in the novel Ban This Book.  This is something that the main character struggles with, and it would be a great way for the students to demonstrate their understanding of the text through an applicable and meaningful approach.

Flipgrid Reflection

Flipgrid is an easy and convenient tool for students to share their thoughts, opinions, or experiences about a topic related to the content. Flipgrid can help my students share their voice and connect with others by allowing them to freely express their views (while also showing a creative side in their stickers and filters). Students are able to comment on other students' videos, making connections to what has been shared. One idea I have for using Flipgrid in my classroom is for book reflections and recommendations (Book Talks) in my reading groups and clubs.

Reflection

This past school year has been very challenging for students to have social interactions with their peers being 6' apart and to build a classroom community with both hybrid and remote learning modules.  Some of my students have become complacent quietly sitting in class while a few of their talkative classmates dominate discussions and answer questions.  FlipGrid offers students a non-threatening place to respond to their teacher and classmates. Their individual voice can be heard and not overshadowed.  The various options under "essentials" on FlipGrid can make responses private to just the teacher and/or to the whole class with the ability to comment.  I really like this feature, especially for students who may feel self-conscious being on video or speaking out in front of a larger audience.

In lieu of a traditional "ticket out the door", students could respond to a prompt as a way to check for understanding at the end of a lesson. This could even be used for icebreakers at the beginning of the school year.  I'm still wrapping my head around the endless possibilities!
