FLIP reflection

Flip can help my students share their voice by giving all students the opportunity to post videos about a certain topic.  It will also allow other students to respond to each other's ideas.  It is an opportunity for students who are uncomfortable speaking in front of others to share their ideas in a video.

One idea I have for FLIP in my classroom is Spanish speaking task practice.  I could post a topic for the current chapter and ask students to complete it in Spanish.  For example: video your favorite outfit, answer the following questions: 1. Describe your clothing including the colors of the items.  2. Use the past tense of ir (to go) to tell us where you went to buy at least one of the items.  3. Use the past tense of gastar (to spend) to say how much you paid for at least one item.  BONUS: say why is it one of your favorite outfits or comment in Spanish on someone else's video.

This would allow students to practice speaking which is so important and work on the vocabulary and past tense verbs for this unit.

Feedback

  1. How can Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others?   I think my students could use Flip to share with my what they learned in a certain topic.  I love that they could screen share and explain to me a topic that I taught them as an assessment.    Students could also use this for peer feedback on a project that the student created. By using Flip it enhances their presentation skills without having to get in front of a class to present.  I know that creates a lot of anxiety in a lot of kids.
What is one idea I have for using Flip in my classroom?   This idea could also be used to answer question 1 above, but one idea I had to use Flip is at the end of a unit or even at the end of the year, I ask the students a series of questions about what they liked, what they would change, etc.  I would love to use Flip to obtain that feedback rather than a Microsoft Form.   I can tell so much be seeing their facial expressions on the video.

Flip is great for kids who have difficulty reading!

I think Flip would be good for students who struggle to read directions or who have difficulty putting their thoughts into sentences.  I believe that I will train my students to use this app in small batches.  They can then help trouble shoot for their peers.
I look forward to short response questions answered or for student to share their feedback on topics.

Flip will enhance the educational environment in my classroom.

Flip will help my students in a variety of ways.:
  • Students can read aloud passages to asess progression in reading skills
  • Students will orally respond to questions to inclrease participation
  • Responses can be shared to drive classroom discussion
  • Students can record work in centers to increase accountability.
  • Documentation can be created to use in student data meetings.

Flip can help my students.

Flip can help my students in many different ways.  One way that I am thinking is it might help a student who is not the best writer still participate in a discussion.  I actually learned about flip when it was still flipgrid a few years ago.  I had the idea to use it in place of discussion posts.  It is something that can easily be used in a PIG to talk about current events and for students to share their opinions on the topic they are researching.  I also thought of it being useful to use to help build skills necessary to complete regents exam essay prompts by having the students verbalize their answers first and get feedback from each other.

Flip reflection

  1. How can Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others?
My students would really like to use Flip as a tool to share what they know.  The non-threatening aspect of being able to record their thoughts without having to respond in front of a crowd, is very appealing to many students. They shy away from class time participation due to fear or anxiety of being wrong. It is a risk to respond. Flip tremendously reduces that for those kids.
2. What is one idea I have for using Flip in my classroom?
The practice Flip I made was related to our current social studies lessons. It will give kids the opportunity to share what they've learned and transfer that knowledge to the whole class. There, they can weigh the pros and cons of the banana industry. They can share their evaluation of the issues at hand.

Reflection - How Can Flip Help My Students

Flip's interactive platform allows all students to communicate with the teacher directly as well as other students.  Teachers can get an exact idea of where a student is "at" regarding a topic either before the unit begins or after it has ended.  Sometimes students are shy or reserved and don't always like to speak out in class.  By utilizing Flip, students can record themselves answering questions or posing them and send them to their teacher for individual feedback.  Moreover, if a student is absent from class, a teacher's video can instruct that student when at home.  Additionally, the amount of time students today spend on social media would make learning Flip very easy for students.

Flip Summary

  1. How can Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others?
I love that student can post mini-videos that can also be viewed by one another. This may be a fun way to check in with one another's emotions, feelings, or to do in class as an exit ticket. I think it will allow them to share in a new way, and even keep an ongoing digital journal of their learning throughout the year.
  2. What is one idea I have for using Flip in my classroom?
I am going to use Flip to share ideas and such about books we read in class. Students can then respond to each other's ideas. For example, we may read a story and then they can share what they think the theme of the story was. They can then listen to other student's ideas and compare ideas and thoughts.

Increase communication and discussion

I think that Flip can help students share their voice and connect with others in a non-threatening way. It provides students with a platform that they can respond to others that is safe and in a constructive manner where everything is monitored. It allows students that time to express and explain their thinking that might be difficult to do in writing.

When I think about my classroom and my students I would love to use Flip as a way for them to interact and share about the books that they are reading. I would like to post a question about story elements and them provide examples from their individual books. I also see it as a tool to use when gathering data for IEP goal tracking.

Flip- SEL

  1. How can Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others?
In a classroom full of 19 6 year olds.. it can be easy for a child to get lost in the mix and not say all they need to say. I like that Flip would make it so every student can participate and be heard. I also think it's cool that students can listen to their peers answers and ideas and extend the thinking past just what is in their head. I think Flip would be easy to use with my kids, and I think they would really enjoy recording themselves.
  1. What is one idea I have for using Flip in my classroom?
One idea I have for Flip in my classroom is using it to implement our SEL curriculum RULER. Each week we have a feeling word we discuss and what makes us feel that way. I think Flip would be fun for students to use to express when they feel that certain way. I also think it would be cool for all the students to hear each other's responses and then discuss if they had similar answers or completely different ideas.

reflection

Flip can help students share their voice in a very personal way. They can connect with others through current media formats. These media formats are engaging to them. Students can get creative through the different options that they can use. Students can comment on others or ask questions on other posts. This keeps the engagement going.

I can use flip in my classroom for vocabulary purposes. I can have students create sentences using the terminology. I can have students focus on their articulation and monitor their articulation by playing it back to themselves. I can have students work on their fluency and monitor their fluency by watching themselves and self-correcting using the strategies that are learned.

Reflection

  1. Flip help my students share their voice and connect with others by giving students and teachers a new innovative way to share, discuss, and reflect on content. It is a great way to do things remotely or in hybrid too.
  2. One idea I have for using Flip in my classroom: I want to have students give a speech on social justice and they can present it using Flip rather than in person for time purposes and anxiety as well.
