1. Your name, building, and assignment:
Emily Jang, FHS, English Teacher 10 & 11R
2. What do you enjoy most about teaching?
Encouraging student creativity in a rigid model and connecting students to bigger ideas and broader topics
3. In your opinion and considering your teaching assignment, what is a barrier to students becoming content producers?:
Students come into HS with habits and are unaccustomed to being authentically creative in a digital format in ELA - focus is essay writing, Regents tests, and receiving "cookies" (grades) to validate worthiness and intelligence? Copying and sharing answers, test answers, etc. is a huge problem in a digital world. Project focused assignments help deter this and students know this - they want quick, easy, and visible rewards. Too much play makes students think it's not "real learning". And a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head...
