Definition of Formative/Summative Assessments

Formative assessments are assessments that are given weekly or every other week. These assessments are to provided feedback for teachers to help plan the correct lessons for each child moving forward. This helps guide their instruction to push each student to grow. Summative assessments are assessments that happen two or three times a year depending on the assessment. This assessment is to help make yearly goals for the students to achieve by end of year. These goals are usually more rigorous and lengthier than formative assessments.
