1. Formative assessments are used consistently throughout a unit to assess progress and how far along students are during a specific unit. These assessments are also known as low-stakes assessments because of how much weight they carry, and due to how little content they have in them. Summative assessments are used to assess the entire unit and if the student can recall all the information taught throughout the unit. Summative assessments are also known as high-stakes assessments because of the weight they carry. As opposed to a low-stakes assessment, these assessments are greater in content.
