A formative assessment is used to monitor learning throughout the lesson. this includes giving feedback to the students. they are usually smaller that should not take a lot of time. this can be an exit slip, a journal entry, or a reflection. Summative assessments are to evaluate students at the end of the lesson or unit. This includes a final exam, a chapter test, a project, or a midterm.
