Formative assessment is what is most used in the classroom because it is what gauges our teaching. It tells us if we need to continue on the subject or if the students are mastering it so we can start throwing in new things. It also is how groups can be formed and what happens within the groups. I use FA as a way to ask myself "Am I teaching it well or do I need to find another angle to teach it from?" It shows improvement along the way instead of at the end.

Where a summative assessment is used as a way to test if a student has mastered the content before moving on no matter the outcome. I see it as an overall test and the end of teaching that content. It answers the question did I meet my goal of where I wanted them? I usually use summative assessments to gauge what I need to cover before state testing during our "review" weeks. Though out of the two I typically us formative over summative because formative is more beneficial to the students and myself.
