ISTE Standard

Leader: Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning. Educators: Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning.

By requesting tools and materials for their classrooms, teachers are exhibiting the Leader ISTE standard. These teachers want their students to have equitable access to technology by having it in their classroom. The applications I reviewed all asked for resources for the benefit of their students, some of that being furniture, STEM resources, or general classroom things. They are showing their students how much they care and it is great.

2: Leader
Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.
I think that this standard best relates to the donors choose website because teachers are reaching out to make changes in their own classrooms. They are using technology to become a leader and ask for something that would benefit their students and empower the learning that they do in their classrooms.

ISTE: collaborator

4-Collaborator-Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. Educators: 4a- Dedicate planning time to collaborate with colleagues to create authentic learning experiences that leverage technology. 4b-Collaborate and co-learn with students to discover and use new digital resources and diagnose and troubleshoot technology issues. 4c-Use collaborative tools to expand students' authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams and students, locally and globally. 4d-Demonstrate cultural competency when communicating with students, parents and colleagues and interact with them as co-collaborators in student learning.

I think this assignment helped me tap into my inner collaborator and think about the resources and ideas to solve an issue in the classroom or to bring some improvements to the lives of the students we (will) have. This standards includes co-learning with the students and I think this is an important aspect of DC and how they utilize technology to accomplish their classroom goals. Finally, demonstrating cultural competencies when communicating with others in student learning perfectly embodies this assignment as well as the role of the teachers on DonorsChoose.

Leader-Educators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning. Educators:a. Shape, advance and accelerate a shared vision for empowered learning with technology by engaging with education stakeholders.b. Advocate for equitable access to educational technology, digital content and learning opportunities to meet the diverse needs of all students.c. Model for colleagues the identification, exploration, evaluation, curation and adoption of new digital resources and tools for learning

The teachers using Donors Choose are acting as leaders by reaching out and advocating for their students’’ educational and personal needs. Although the campaigns that I chose did not necessarily ask for funding for technology, there are many other campaigns that do do so. For these individuals, Donors Choose helps them advance their students diverse technological and educational needs.

Collaborator-Educators dedicate time to collaborate with both colleagues and students to improve practice, discover and share resources and ideas, and solve problems. Educators:a. Dedicate planning time to collaborate with colleagues to create authentic learning experiences that leverage technology.b. Collaborate and co-learn with students to discover and use new digital resources and diagnose and troubleshoot technology issues.c. Use collaborative tools to expand students’ authentic, real-world learning experiences by engaging virtually with experts, teams and students, locally and globally.d. Demonstrate cultural competency when communicating with students, parents and colleagues and interact with them as co-collaborators in student learning.

Donors Choose is almost a textbook example of collaboration. Teachers are reaching out to other educators and the public to help finance the very real needs of their classrooms. In this way, they are also sharing ideas with other educators about things to request and avenues of support. Donors Choose is a great digital resource for educators and school administrators alike.

2. LeaderEducators seek out opportunities for leadership to support student empowerment and success and to improve teaching and learning.

By using Donors Choose, teachers are engaging with stakeholders who can help them execute a vision for their classrooms that will promote student empowerment and success as well as improve learning. Some may have something to do with technology and some might not, but teachers are good models on how to get the resources needed that incorporate the data from recent research in order to benefit their students.

5. DesignerEducators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability.

By working towards receiving resources that will benefit students, teachers are working towards designing an environment in which the students need to succeed. These resources can help differentiate for each of their students and their needs and many include this on their application.

3. Citizen, A

Create experiences for learners to make positive, socially responsible contributions and exhibit empathetic behavior online that build relationships and community.

Reaching out to the public for funding is a way to promote citizenship in my classroom. It would be a great way to have students express for themselves why they may want an iPad, chrome book, or a Mac book. It helps students see when they are successful that their contributions matter. Creating a Donors Choose builds relationships within the local community, as well as globally since it is on the internet.
