What are your thoughts about Khan Academy?

As a class we watched a Khan Academy video on comparing lengths.  The students enjoyed how the video paused to give them think time as well as explaining the answer.

Its a bare bones for my sixth graders.  But its quick and informative.  

One of the high school teachers uses Khan Academy in her math class and I've been able to observe her students using this app.  She has students on different levels, so her students who need more time on certain concepts are able to go slower.  Her students who are able to move ahead more quickly and need more challenge are able to advance on their own.  The students seem to like using this app, too.  

I use Khan Academy to help differentiate instruction in my math classroom.  I have students who are on different grade levels in my math class.  This program allows me to help the students in my classroom that need to be challenged or pushed to the next level. I am able assign them lessons and they are able to watch videos use the practice to test their knowledge over the skill. This then provides me with the time to work with students who are struggling on different concepts that prevent them from moving forward with their learning of other concepts.

I love using Khan Academy in Math. I can teach a lesson one way, then students can hear and see the same material taught in another way. I also love doing the practice questions as a class. I can link a video or practice into a google classroom for students to watch on their own. They can watch it at their own speed and respond with what they learned. 

Since I have been in the library for 9 years, I haven't really used Khan Academy with my students.  I shared it with many upper elementary students and gone through ways to use it as a homework helper.   I have used it with my son to help him with his math homework.  It's a great tool to use as a reinforcement as well.

I have used Khan Academy in my resource study skills class to help students brush up on skills. Most recently I used Khan to help a student in Algebra.  I really liked how it has changed and now has a video lesson format.    I have also observed how a school district utilizes Khan by creating individualized lesson plans for students.
