Reflection on Privilege and Marginalization

I've experienced privilege being a white, middle class, married, educated woman.  I don't feel like I've ever been marginalized like I know some groups have, whether it be by race, gender, sexuality, family/home life, etc.  Taking that first buzzfeed quiz, it appears I've lived a pretty "privileged" life.  I feel like teaching in a rural, majority white population, public school, I don't see much marginalization based on race but I do see it based on socio-economic status and also on sexuality.  I can use my privilege to make sure I have the resources and materials for my students to make their classroom experience and their day in general better, create a welcoming atmosphere where they can feel safe and secure and not judged, allow students to learn and access the materials in ways that are relatable to them.  I can also check my privilege at the door and make sure I put myself in their shoes and be able to connect with them and let them share their stories.
