Earning this Performance-Based Assessment Specialization Badge shows that you:
- design credible and engaging PBA that integrates globally competitive skills with content knowledge;
- design a PBA student rubric that aligns to the task's identified target standards/outcomes and related globally competitive skills;
- and score a PBA using a high quality rubric, as well as lead a group through the scoring calibration process.
This badge combines the learning of Designing Performance-Based Assessment (#PBA), Designing High Quality PBA Rubrics (#PBA), and PBA Calibration and Scoring (#PBA).
Criteria
Educators who design effective performance based assessments have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to:
- identify target standards/outcomes and related globally competitive skills that can be assessed at an appropriate level of depth and complexity through a performance task;
- apply backwards design to create a high-quality authentic task which allow students to demonstrate deep understanding and transfer of learning with multiple entry points and varied pathways;
- articulate descriptive criteria that align with identified outcomes; and
- understand the interdependence between the task and the criteria on the assessment of clear content outcomes infused with globally competitive skills.
Educators who design effective performance-based assessment rubrics have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to
- design a PBA student rubric that aligns to the task's identified target standards/outcomes and related globally competitive skills by:
- selecting a performance task that assesses targeted standards/outcomes and related globally competitive skills at an appropriate level of depth and complexity;
- identifying specific targeted standards, to include "soft-skill criteria" and content standards, which together will become the criteria for the rubric. (no more than 3 standards)
- understanding the interdependence between the task and the criteria on the assessment of clear content outcomes infused with globally competitive skills;
- unpacking each standard and thoroughly describe what a student's demonstration of success each standard would look like, beginning with PROFICIENT level and then modifying for ADVANCED PROFICIENT, DEVELOPING PROFICIENCY, and NOVICE;
- and using the rubric within a curriculum-embedded performance assessment ensuring that students understand the rubric and use the rubric to provide feedback and score students' work.
Educators who successfully calibrate and score performance based assessments and rubrics have the knowledge, skills and dispositions to:
- provide actionable feedback to a peer on a their PBA, indicating where the task is strong (in terms of validity) and where changes might be made to strengthen it,
- make appropriate revisions to own PBA based on actionable feedback received from a peer during the validation process.
