Addiction can occur in many forms. Often, it is assumed that physical dependence characterized by withdrawal symptoms is required in order for someone to be diagnosed with an addiction disorder, but the fact is that behavioral addiction can occur with all the negative consequences in a person’s life

Process addiction also referred to as behavioral addiction, is an addiction characterized by obsessive, compulsive urges to partake in specific behaviors. Individuals who struggle with process addictions often partake in behaviors despite negative consequences that take a toll on an individual’s emotional, interpersonal, or physical well-being. Unlike addictions involving drugs and alcohol, the behaviors provide a natural reward or euphoria for individuals struggling with process addictions. Compulsive behaviors fuel behavioral addictions while causing distress in many areas of an individual’s life.

Select 2 to respond to:

# Select a process addiction and create a fictional story about observing a student with this behavior.

# Is addiction hard wired from birth? Are addicts ever "cured"? A student addicted to drugs may also have an addiction to something else. Comment.

# What are process /behavioral addictions: evolution? Pick a process addiction and create resource about this for use with students or colleagues.
