2nd Grade Popplet Lesson

We used Popplet for a 2nd lesson on David Wiesner wordless books. We explored 5 different David Wiesner books and student then took a picture of their favorite part of the book. They uploaded their picture into the Popplet app and wrote a caption on what it would say if there were pictures in the book. They then airdopped their Popplet to me and I printed and laminated them. These will be on display at our May 1st Literacy Night.

Brainstorming

We used Popplet for a brainstorming tool to organize our ideas into a web. For this Popplet the kids helped me create a brainstorming web about things we are thankful for before we begin a writing project. I liked using a Popplet and airplaying it up onto the board rather than just drawing a web myself because it was neat and organized in a way that will make it easy for kids to refer back to.

ELA

I used it to start out our Wonders Grammar for the week, it was great! It seemed to be more engaging and fun for the students! I would use it again to continue with the grammar, I would also use it for the Vocabulary.

Popplet Uses

I like using Popplet when brainstorming... especially for complex projects.  I can quickly capture everyone's thoughts and even color code the ideas depending how they fall into the grand scheme of things.  I like to capture a comprehensive picture of a project from start to finish before I jump into action.

ELA and popplet

I used popplet during my ELA block as a way for the students to utilize a graphic organizer while they read. This lesson we focused on comparing and contrasting different characters responses to an event. My students really liked doing graphic organizers this way and I think I would use it again in the same way. I would love to find out how others use this in different subject areas.

I'm sure some people love it. I am too linear in my thinking.

I like Poplet, it's just not my favorite way to plan or think. I like that you can add all sorts of content though. That's pretty cool. I think it's a great tool for kids who do like to organize and brainstorm this way.

Popplet reflection

I don't know that I would have my students create a Popplet; we don't have the app and they aren't familiar. We have Inspiration, which does something similar, and the students are more familiar with it. However, I can see using it for myself to brainstorm with students or send out resources like my example. Paige told me she uses it for lesson planning, and I really like that idea. I'm a visual/spatial thinker, and it helps me to see things and organize tasks. It's sort of like an organizational chart for a to-do list. It's pretty simple to use, and you don't need much front-loading to figure out how things work.

Popplet ❤️❤️❤️

I used popplet as an exit ticket. I had students show me character traits of their main character.

I absolutely love popplet. Especially for planning out units.

Id like to continue to use Popplet with my students. I can see it being very helpful in writing to organize thoughts.

I love that that students can insert pictures and draw in the popple bubbles!!

Plan

I plan to use Popplet as a way for me to create templates for students to copy and edit in Seesaw. This may work a lot better than Pic Collage. Check out my 2nd piece of evidence for an example. Will upload student work in the Popplet Bear badge when they've completed it.
