NP In Action #3

https://app.nearpod.com/library/preview/lesson-L35966509

I really enjoyed being able to combine a main idea worksheet and a compare/contrast venn diagram into one lesson. Once students learn a concept, it is important to be able to layer those concepts consistently throughout the school year. Nearpod provided me the opportunity to create a short multi-faceted lesson.

I made this Nearpod this morning to use as a math center. We are currently working on 10s and 1s in math, so I uploaded a few quick worksheets into a presentation with the drawing tool and the kids worked at their own pace. Some of my lower friends needed more support with the technology components and forgot to hit the "send" button on each page to save their work, but overall I think the kids liked this format more than just doing a regular worksheet. I also wanted the kids to get more practice than a 5 minute worksheet would have provided, so this format allowed me to put 6 together without killing any trees.

Project introduction through Nearpod

I used a student-paced Nearpod to introduce a couple pieces of our new project when using the jigsaw technique.
I put a QR code that linked to a student-paced nearpod. They still had to answer the questions and I could see their responses; but they work through the Nearpod at their own pace. This would be great to utilize for...homework, absent kids, or anchor activities.
The only issue was that sometimes when the kids scanned the QR code, it asked them to put in a code instead of taking them directly there. But if they scanned it again, it fixed the problem.

Math warm up! Went really well.

https://app.nearpod.com/library/preview/lesson-L30133653

This is a quick math review to help kids remember how to divide fractions. After missing math for a couple of days of testing this is just what they needed. I really liked the way it included cooperative learning into the presentation. Sometimes I worry about having the students do so much independently on the iPad and not doing enough talking. I think it's important to keep a good balance. This was cool way to do it.

Nearpod VR

  https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/ZXga54li7A

I used this VR Nearpod lesson to give students a break from state assessments. Students finished testing and we had a large chuck of time left, so I told them we were going on a field trip. We visited 3 different communities (urban, rural, and suburban). This was my first VR lesson and it was great! Students were very engaged and loved visiting the different places. I had never used these lessons, because I was under the impression they had to be used with the VR headsets and that was totally not the case. It was really neat to see it on the smartboard. I will definitely use more of the VR lessons.
