NP In Action #2

This was a really FUN and ENGAGING lesson. The students love playing "Words With Friends EDU". We did have some technology issues and ended up having the students to share iPads and play in teams against each other.

We did this long e (ee,ea) Nearpod whole group as a class. I did not create this one but I hopped around to the interactive slides to practice and model the ee pattern. The presentation served as a great jumping-off point for talking about the phonics pattern and the kids were engaged.

Next time I need to add even more opportunities for student participation because they were all wanting a turn on the board.

Virtual Reality Nearpod

https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/Ty0EwAe5Lu

I shared this virtual reality Nearpod to share with my students for a VR badge on our Badgelist group. They shared it with their families to teach them how VR works. I shared it as a homework assignment so that they could complete it at their own pace. I found VR slides I thought the kids would find interesting and inserted them in.

Review for math test

I made a nearpod review for math the upcoming math test. This is the first nearpod lesson I have ever done self paced. it went well. everyone was on task and I was able to help students as needed. The lesson had drawing slides and quiz slides.

The kids were disappointed that they didn't get immediate feedback on their answers. We talked about that a bit and I think they would rather have a quizzes practices or something else that would give them feedback so they could ask for help if they get it wrong. This was great feedback from them though. It really showed me, again, that our students want to do well and will take advantage of opportunities for help and improvement.

It also reinforced for me how I need to be very thoughtful about the tools I use and the purpose of the tools, not just for me but for the students too.

I used this nearpod to introduce EdCamp sessions that I will be doing with kids! I created a sway and inserted it into the nearpod! It was pretty cool! Students weren't able to click on the link from the nearpod, so next time I will have to have a qr code ready. But I am really excited about being able to insert a sway into a nearpod!

Classmate Bingo

https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/dJ9lW18W2B

I used a teambuilding activity to give students a brain break from state testing. I allowed it to be student paced; I had never used the student paced feature before and I am not sure that I ever will again. I really enjoy the live lesson mode. Where we are able to walk through a lesson together as a class. The student paced paired with the BINGO activity was not a good match.  I was not able to see their responses even if they submitted it. Had it been a multiple choice or short answer activity it would've probably been better. I'm thinking this Bingo activity will work really well in Classkick. I'm going to try it out and see.
