Nearpod in an Adult ESL classroom: feasible possibilities & opportunities to experiment and explore

The most exciting feature of Nearpod, for me, is the access to pre-made and pre-recorded lessons and videos in the Nearpod library. These could be used to enhance learning in the Adult ESL classroom. For example, there are times when we want to explain something to our students more in-depth. Having the ability to search a topic, and browse the lessons and videos on this topic, and select something relevant is a great resource, which would definitely enhance English-language learning, and allow for the use of interactive media in the classroom.

Of course, the possibility of using Nearpod in a more sophisticated and student-centered way would be by using tablets, with Nearpod downloaded onto them, to enhance student learning and keep our adults students technologically-savvy. The Adult Ed division of the district was able to purchase tablets (for the shared use by all of the teachers at the West Side Learning Center) last year. However due to COVID-19, we have not been able to launch their use in the classroom.

Here are some possibilities:
1) Designing a Live Participation lesson to be done during class, with each student (or perhaps two) using a device. This could be done with several purposes in mind: first, being able to practice English comprehension; two, engaging in activities like open-ended questions to check how much the student understands; three, learning content in English.
2) Designing a Front-Class activity to be done as a whole class. The purposes would be similar to the Live Participation lesson mentioned above, with the difference of engaging in learning as a whole group, where the pace could be controlled, doubts can be cleared up, and discussion can take place.
