Learning the history of the city and the community can help because you can learn what has shaped and formed the all the different aspects and identities of the city and its community. You can understand why things are located where they are, what resources are available, etc. Knowing the history of the community is important so that one can be sensitive and understanding to its members and explore ways to include and embrace each member in order to have a stronger community.
How might looking at the stories of the history of your city help you understand the future better?
Knowing the history of the city can give insight into things that are predictable historically and allow for informed projections of some aspects of the city. It also allows you to know what did not work historically and hopefully allow for change based on what history has taught us.
