“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” – Steven Spielberg
I really feel like the most important thing that a mentor can do is give someone the opportunity to learn and grow in a trustworthy space. As a mentor, if I can form a connection with someone enough to allow them to feel comfortable with me, I can help them reach their goals and figure out what kind of teacher they want to be. The beauty in working together as a community is that everyone brings different strengths to the table. This quote resonates with me because I would not want to create a copy of myself, I would prefer to let a mentee find out who they are and create that best version of themselves.
