"Be the person you needed when you were younger." - Ayesha Siddiqi https://x.com/AyeshaASiddiqi/status/334747947222855680 ; I find this quote inspirational and applicable to my both my current personal and professional life, but it can easily be applied to a mentoring relationship. Giving someone the support you needed is an easy place to start when working with a mentee. This leads however to my second quote choice because mentoring is not actually about the mentor as much as it is about the mentee.
“The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image, but giving them the opportunity to create themselves.” – Steven Spielberg This quote is a reminder that the mentor is a supporter, of the mentee, who ultimately is working to improve themselves through the mentorship.
