- I have had students who americanized the pronunciation of their name. This happened with one of my students when he was telling me his name, and he said “that it was okay, and it didn’t really matter,” that I said it incorrectly. This showed me how devalued his name has been over the years, and I told him to teach me how to say his name, because he deserves to have it said correctly. I have heard about this Hollywood story and I think it is ridiculous. With all the varying names of celebrities that have difficult names to pronounce, you can take the time to learn names that are new to you.
- I will make sure to check in with students that I have been pronouncing their first and last names correctly. I will also make sure that I have been saying the names of their family members correctly too.
