  1. REFLECTION: What types of discussions do you feel are necessary to have with students regarding this new technology?  ChatGPT is an amazing tool with an endless amount of possibilities for learners.  I believe as educators, we must first accept that ChatGPT is only the beginning of AI tools that will affect teaching and learning for years to come and beyond anything we can dream up.  At the second grade level, discussions I feel are necessary relate to the importance of integrity and character.  Focusing on building personal character, including honesty, confidence, internal motivation stemming from internal rewards, pride earned by efforts to do their personal best. I can discuss how important each individuals own thoughts, ideas and works are incredibly unique and valuable.  Essentially, introducing this technology as an incredible tool that should only be used to enhance and build on their ideas, not replace their ideas.
  2. EXPLAIN: Pick one or more of the 11 strategies provided by Turnitin and explain how you might use it in your classroom.  #3 - I believe student/teacher relationships are a fundamental key to learning. My goal is to become as knowledgeable as I can about how to use this new technology, when to use it, and how to help my students learn to use it responsibly.  If I embrace these tools, the learning process will develop more naturally for myself and therefore I will be able to develop ways for my students to become more responsible while using it.  My hope is that our connection will grow, trust will grow, and honesty will grow because my students will understand that I am invested in their futures and that I expect them to invest responsibly in themselves as well.  #4 - Setting crystal clear expectations is absolutely necessary.  My students need to know how I expect them to use these new technologies appropriately as they develop their group or individual work.  Taking the time to analyze examples and non-examples prior to any AI related learning experience will reinforce my expectations and set them up for success.  #5 - Motivating students with tasks working doing is always a goal!  This new technology just means I have to be more creative in how I create learning experiences. In second grade, I may create opportunities for students to work together in groups/partnerships to access information from AI and build on original ideas together, while holding each other accountable, building motivation to produce work they are extremely proud to share and that is unique to them. I am hoping to try this in the later spring with projects such as developing partner/small group reviews for book clubs and eventually individual research projects.
