ChatGPT to helped me create a short activity for a second grade intervention math group to learn number sense/place value.  The results were a quick, hands-on game and in their words "simple, visual and low prep". It created a quick activity with clear steps, prompts, student interaction ideas, exit questions, and extensions and differentiation to build on the learning.  ChatGPT continued to help me build consecutive mini-lessons to transition students from 2-digit to 3-digit understanding.  In addition, ChatGPT prepared short practice materials for students to record and build on their learning. I was intrigued, so I kept going and found decided to use this chat to develop small groups for more advanced learners and those who are learning at pace.  This was extremely helpful.  While I will make a few adjustments on my own, this chat was extremely helpful in organizing ideas with specific grade level activities, practice and quick assessment for understanding place value.

Would I consider using it WITH my students in second grade is questionable.  I think it would be valuable for me to introduce my students to ChatGPT in a "learning environment" and discuss ethics surrounding its use. We can not avoid the inevitable surrounding AI in education, so I think building on students' digital citizenship will be helpful as they grow and explore this technology on their own.  As we move into research units of study, I may begin exploring ways to engage my students in ways to gather information on their topics.
