The session where Chris Bennett from Cleveland County Schools shared data and success using Xtreme Reading was very informative.

Loved our "Block Party" to mingle and discuss pertinent ideas from the Summer Institute Key Note speakers. Also got to showcase NC admins.

Jean Schumaker's session on The Paragraph Writing Strategy was great. I plan to use several of the activities with my students next year.

Supporting Students with Complex Texts provided great tools to analyze text complexity and create appropriate text-dependent questions.

Activities for Paragraph Writing by Jean Schumaker

I am a novice in teaching the Paragraph Writing Strategy, so Jean's session was extremely valuable. The activities she shared were engaging and required us to think deeply about writing structures and how we differentiate our writing instruction. The activities also provided us with alternatives to the practice sheets that are included in the strategy's curriculum. The most beneficial aspect of the session was being able to practice the activities and see them from a student's perspective. I can take back our examples and use them as exemplars for students as they collaborate and experience the activities for themselves. I'm excited to incorporate these writing activities into my ELA classes! Best PD ever!

This was my first CLC Sim Conference - and it was very informative and exciting!

I really enjoyed the "Tackling Adolescent Literacy" and "Supporting Students with Complex Texts" very interesting.  The Text Analysis Template and Sample Reading Examples given really helped to clarify who to use them.

I especially liked the session of supporting students with complex texts. I liked the explanation and process with charts.

Coaching through Technology

Loved session on coaching through tech. Very hard to do face to face(which is still important to incorp. into hybrid model),so this helps to keep the work alive :-)

Bittersweet

.     Always wonderful to collaborate regarding the problems of practice and the achievements of others at the conferences.  Pam, Elizabeth, and Patti are always so gracious as they share their expertise, knowledge, and passion for the work.  I always come away with an affirmation of the opportunity to grow as an educator and professional developer.
At the end of Patti's final session, we learned she will not be present at the update conference next year.  Although I understood she retired earlier in the year, I had not fully grasped the implications of the retirement.  I am left with gratitude for Patti and the Team as a new chapter begins.
