Using the Unit Organizer for Instruction and Planning

The reading specialist and I planned three units on 'Rules of the English Language' (closed syllables, consonant teams, and rabbit syllable types). We used her initial pacing guide for small group phonics instruction to develop each draft. I worked with one of her students to model how to co-construct the unit organizer and use the expanded unit map.  The reading specialist reviewed individual skills throughout each small group phonics lesson (2 times per week for 45 minutes) and also referred to the Unit Organizer throughout the unit to guide students as they connected concepts through analyzing, sorting, encoding, and decoding words.
