I implemented this Frame with a small class of 13 students.
There were no special education students in this class, but there is one
homeless student and one student who struggles with math and has not passed the
state assessment test for two years. The
other students are typical middle school students with grades ranging from A to
C.
I used the FRAME as a review for the unit test. The students
co-created the document which allowed them to use it as a study guide. The
results of the test for all three of my classes was good but this bell had a
100% pass rate (70 or above). The other classes had an 85% and 86% pass rate.
I found challenges in trying to get the students to say what
I wanted them to say! A strong questioning technique is a plus when doing these.
I have used the Frame with Special education students where the items I wanted
them to know, where cut out and they organized them on the frame. That was very
successful and I would use that method with this topic for my struggling
students. Whichever method you use, it is imperative that you create this in
advance. Being able to anticipate what
the students will says helps to keep you on track.
