I had the opportunity to work with students to finalize their understanding of mineral characteristics and properties to distinguish one from another on the 28th of March 2017. Students were Cued in to the Frame by first getting a review of the mineral stations they had completed the previous class, they were then shown the the Frame could be useful in tying together the information and organizing their thoughts while understanding the main ideas. In the Do step students helped to generate ideas of what would go on the Frame and worked with me to complete the Frame. Students generated their own "So what" statements and we shared out several as a class. Students then used the Frame to extend their learning by ranking which of the properties are most useful and which are least useful in identifying a mineral. To Review the ideas on the Frame students were asked later that block and in the next class to use the Frame to answer questions on mineral identification.
