In English 11, the Framing Routine graphic organizer has been beneficial for note-taking, summarizing fiction and non-fiction texts, and also for organizing the steps of the writing process.

When reviewing short stories, students are able to remember key points and main ideas by use of the graphic organizer. The frames are adaptable to a variety of lessons as demonstrated in our Rhetorical Appeals lesson posted. We used the 3 main ideas frame and found examples of the 3 appeals (ethos, logos, and pathos) from a specific piece of literature (Letter from Birmingham Jail by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.). There are a variety of frames available with different numbers of main idea spaces to fit into many lesson plans.
