I deal a lot with struggling readers in the intermediate grades and I was looking for a book that would help me go beyond teaching to decode. I took a course recently that touched on reading comprehension but I wanted to delve deeper. After a bit of research, the same book kept coming up: Reading Power, by Adrienne Gear. When I saw the rave reviews that it received, and that it was inspired by the book Strategies that Work: Teaching Comprehension to Enhance Understanding, by Stephanie Harvey and Anne Goudvis, I thought I would give it a try. By reading this book I hope to gain additional strategies and a better understanding of how to help my students improve their reading abilities.
