Over the weekend I was watching some stand up comedians on youtube, and came across a man called Joey Diaz. Joey Diaz is one of the best storytellers I have ever heard. So when in my English class our teacher told us to find a podcast, I instantly googled Joey Diaz’s name and hoped he had a podcast. The first result was “The Church Of What’s Happening Now” podcast by Joey Diaz with 625 episodes. I instantly clicked on the newest episode and watched it for all 57 minutes of the period.Joey Diaz doing stand-up https://www.vulture.com/2018/11/fox-developing-comedies-uncle-joey-and-significant-brother.htmlJoey Diaz’s stories and podcast are definitely not for everyone. His language is very colorful, but it only helps to emphasize his story. But if you are strongly against cursing, then do not watch his podcast. Joey Diaz also used to be a drug addict, which means quite a few of his stories have drugs in it. However, Joey Diaz’s stories are not only funny, but often times they are also very educational. For example, in his most recent episode Joey Diaz and Vladimir Caamaño talk about the grind and hustle they both went through to become a successful comedian. The main themes of the story is that you are going to fail, or in their case, not do well in a standup routine. And just because you failed once does not mean you won’t fail tomorrow and the day after. The overall idea was that you are going to fail so much, but eventually things will turn around if you put in enough time and effort. But in a time where my life seems to revolve around standardized tests, school grades, and extracurriculars, it is nice to be able to listen to some funny stories. My favorite from his most recent podcast was about how Joey Diaz wanted to lose weight. He was embarrassed to go to the YMCA, so he only went during very early opening hours and very late closing hours. He would swim at the YMCA in order to try to lose weight. He would do all his swimming strictly in the kids swimming pool, so he wouldn’t drown. One day, the kid pool was all filled , so he decided to go into the olympic size pool. Long story short, he ended up almost drowning and had to be fished out in a net. And he then proceeded to run out the building to avoid the ambulance, and more importantly, the ambulance bill.Everything Joey Diaz talks about I love. If it is him complaining about the Water Bar in Las Vegas, which is definitely a scam, to him talking about shoplifting in order to survive. Joey Diaz is one of the all time great storytellers, and if you ever have a hour to spare, listen to one of his crazy stories! You won’t regret it.
