I watched the video and then had a conversation with my sister about the idea that race was basically a social construct. We talked a lot about how a persons race can be a point of pride with people or a determining factor for many things. She is in the medical field so she was interested in the idea that when scientist determine health risks or outcomes based on race, that it really isn't race at all that they are using to determine these things. It made me wonder why we continue to make people identify with a certain race on things such as the census or doctors forms especially based on the idea that you can pretty much make up whatever race you want to be because there is no actual DNA that determines your race.
