  • How can I talk to my family, friends and colleagues about what I have experienced and learned during this Challenge?  I have been sharing the articles and discussing the videos and the course content with both my friends and colleagues throughout the challenge.  I have taken the tips that were emphasized and applied them in my conversations, for example, by bringing my best self and actually listening to the person's perspectives, being open and suspending judgment while having the conversation and continuing to expand my knowledge base by reading and asking questions.  I think these conversations are difficult, especially in a district with little diversity, but essential.  Discussions and exposure to text in literature can help children develop empathy and thereby build emotional attachments toward other people.
  • What changes or actions can I take to advance equity in my home, school and community?  I can continue to study, research, read be informed, I can model equity for the people around me, I can address inappropriate remarks or comments in a way that does not make the person defensive, I can accommodate for different learning styles in the students I work with, I can share books and/or text that I have found helpful, I can give students a voice and help students to display empathy.
