Reflection

This is very relevant to my future classroom since I am wanting to teach kindergarten.  Although older classes no longer use them, Smartboards are still used for whole groups and even centers for early childhood classrooms.  Therefore, I would want to use my Smartboard for my whole group as well as using it as a center.  This way, the students have the ability to be more interactive in the lesson by coming up and matching the coins.  

SmartBoards or some type of technology like it are more than likely featured in many classrooms across the country. It is important to have a least a decent amount of knowledge of how to use the SmartBoard to present lessons, write on, and allow the students to use as well. I would probably use it as a form of a projector to show my students different lessons and activities however, I think it is something that can be an assessment tool for students to use to show the teacher what they know and don't know. With the features that allow the teacher to control what the students are able to use on the SmartBoard can make it a good center for a few students to practice a concept at a time. 

I grew up with smart boards in my classrooms so I am familiar with some of the features and how they can be used in the classroom. If the school I end up at uses them then I will use them to create interactive lessons. I love that you can take a lesson or standard and build a whole presentation around it. Smartboard offers so many features that are user friendly. The only complaint is the orientation. It takes time to re-orient it and then it gets off so often. You can see in our video we set it up right before we started filming and then it already got off again on our second slide. Overall, I would use it for presentations but I would use the writing feature less.

This is relevant to my future classroom because I will more than likely have smartboard available for use in my class. I could use this in a variety of ways. I think that this would be most used is during center time. I would make lessons on the board and the students that are at that center would be able to work in groups and independently on the activity without teacher help.

The SmartBoard is relevant to my class in many ways. To begin, it is easy to use. Kindergarteners can easily manipulate the tools of the board. I can easily create files that my children can write and draw on as well as make sight words and vocabulary much more interesting. The SmartBoard can include games that my class can play. One other component I like is how durable this is. I would not have the fear of my children messing it up or pushing it down because it will be mounted to the wall. 

The smart board was surprisingly tricky to use. I remember when I was in elementary school being so excited to use a smart board. But, I had so many problems with it that would have greatly slowed down my teaching time. First, their were so many cords and set up process that took many tried to get down. Second, I could not even do a lesson that involved writing words because the smart board was so far off. Even after calibrating it several times and getting help from the tech team, it was a nightmare to write on. I found it to be very unreliable and an easy way for myself and my class to become easily distracted and off task. 

 This smartboard activity is relevant to my future because in an early childhood classroom smartboards are used to teach mini lessons. With the smartboards, teachers can easily integrate technology into the classroom and their lessons. Children can have a chance to engage in interactive lessons with a smartboard which is why I plan to use one in my future classroom. The smartboard takes a difficult subject like math and turns it into a fun hands on learning experience.Children can participate and learn with the teacher rather than just sit in one spot and listen to many different experiences. They get the opportunity to be hands on with their learning.

This was the first interaction I have ever really had with using a Smartboard in depth.  I have never had the opportunity to learn how to use the Smartboard technology to create an interactive lesson, and I learned a lot in the hour and a half that we spent working on this badge.  I feel like this is particularly relevant for my future classroom if I am fortunate enough to teach in a school that still uses Smartboards; I think they are a great tool that can be used to enhance student learning and participation.

I think that this was relevant to my future classroom because in many early childhood and elementary classrooms, smartboards are still used and knowing how to use them in a way that fully engages the students is a much better alternative to just writing on it with your back turned to the class the entire time. The students should have an opportunity to use the technology as well because there are a lot of potential gains to be made from integrating technology into other content areas. I could use this to make lessons more interactive and engaging for the students. 

I️ really, really don’t like smart board. It rarely works correctly and is overly complicated. If I️ had this in my classroom, I would probably not use it and just use an old fashioned projector. If anything I️ would use it to show YouTube videos. 

This is relevant to my future classroom because it is important to know how to use different kinds of technology in the classroom. Currently, a lot of schools have smart boards and there was a lot more I needed to know than I thought. Using the software to form our lesson was not very user friendly and we would have had a lot more difficulty if we did not have Dr. Cullen helping us. Another difficulty that we came across was when we were actually presenting our lesson. It was difficulty trying to switch the smart board tool from a writing tool to a mouse. Smart boards however, can be very useful for helping students with a variety examples. It is interactive and allows the students to complete different exersises. 

This is relevant in my classroom because it is a smart board. Many schools have smartboards in their classrooms. When I was an elementary student I really enjoyed smartboards. But, now being on the other side of the lesson, I do not particularly love them. They are hard to work and have too many updates for too much money. I did enjoy learning about how to craft a smartboard lesson and it will be helpful if I have a smartboard in my classroom. It is nice to know that after trying this product, I would not ask my school to provide me one for my classroom.
