The successful
online learner is one who is self-directed. This learner thoroughly reads and
watches all materials. The learner participates constructively in online
discussions, taking the time to pose questions and offer differing viewpoints
in order to push peers’ thinking and learning. The learner is timely in turning
in assignments and posting responses, recognizing that this timeliness
positively impacts other in the class. When technology questions arise, the
learner attempts to troubleshoot, seeking out tutorials and answers on their
own before immediately asking the professor or teaching assistant. When questions
about course or assignment expectations arise, the learner messages the
professor or teaching assistant in a timely manner. And ultimately, the learner
uses opportunities provided in the course to push their own development as a learner
and teacher, seeing the possibilities of trying new things.
