Thoroughly enjoyed getting hands-on to build launcher out of everyday materials. Great to finally try Breakout EDU. Can apply immediately!

I can use both "new things" (among others that are not listed here) right away.  I am looking forward to applying the takeaways into my own work within a school setting.  I heard about Breakout EDU a couple months ago and missed out on registering (all spots were taken). Fortunately I was able to get in on standby for the last session! I was glad to have the time to do many hands-on sessions that allowed us to move around and build/practice with materials.  Loved it.

Coding Alive

Through these two coding experiences- Sphero and BeeBot- I have thought about new ways to use our coding skills for direct physical manipulation.  My students are quite Savvy at using coding programs such as Scratch and Code.org and these physical tools can offer my students a means of bringing their coding to life.  I am interested to see students use these robotics/physical manipulatives with their coding skills to run their programs in a different way.

Shoutkey & GIF Creator

Shoutkey.com let's you share our long URLs super easily with others.  Can use with students or staff when sharing a resource with them quickly.

GIF creator. Have students easily turn a few pictures into a looping GIF. Could show word + definition & it'll keep flashing. Could show short story (stop-motionish) or other science & math terms/examples.

Think and connect

I always try and pick up broader themes that can apply to me and my coaching situation....this day at ICE, I thought a lot about how we think about teaching/learning, and about connecting with others, and inspiring teachers and students to connect with others.

thinking: Was really impacted in a theoretical way by David Jakes talk about design thinking.

connecting: J. Matt Miller gave a great live demo of connecting via Skype with an expert, which is something I'd like to continue and encourage more of at my school.

Google and Design Thinking - great take always from today.

I want to share the ideas from the Google workshop with my teachers. My hope is to integrate them into the lessons I already do in their classrooms. Will share the DEEPdt with my ALF team. Its an exciting way to think about design thinking in education, looking forward to trying it out.

Reflection for artifacts!

In yesterday's STEM Powered Learning seminar, I learned an abundant amount of information. I learned about specific, online programs such as Auto Desk Homestyler, Lego Digital Designer, Code.org, Code Combat, Tinkercad and the Sphero. Two items that I really walked away with wanting to implement right away are Code Combat and Lego Digital Designer. Code Combat is another great coding website and is more advanced for upper elementary and middle school students. You have to compose your code and complete different assignments in order to "beat" the level. To learn more, visit www.codecombat.com. Lego Digital Designer is another great tool that will be extremely useful in my STEM Lab. Lego Digital Designer is great to build digital legos as seen in my picture, but Lego Mindstorms also connects with this program as well. This will be a great way for my students to "storyboard" their Lego NXT Mindstorm before actually building it. I'd love to start using Lego Digital Designer for my elementary students in our after school club as well to give another way to build.
