Part 3A: Introduction

You will be introduced to several guiding principles (AI is undetectable, AI is ubiquitous, AI is transformative) that will impact how we live and teach and learn.

Your Task…
  1. Watch the video below (00:00 - 06:00).
    1. NOTE: The rest of the video will be used for Part 3B
  2. (02:01) “Using AI in the Classroom.”  Explore how a task you currently assign can be completed using AI.
  3. Use ChatGPT to explore how your assignment might be accomplished.  Try several prompts to create the assignment and/or desired response.  Consider what you noticed and how accurate it was throughout.
    1. NOTE: you may use these responses to help complete Part 3C “Beyond the Episode”

Evidence of Learning...
In a short paragraph or two, reflect on this task:
  • Using ChatGPT, explore how an assignment you use in class can be completed.  Explain the prompts you used and describe the responses.  Was ChatGPT able to complete the task?  What score might it receive??
  • Upload a pic of your prompts and GPT’s response.

Part 3B: Classroom Policies and Ethics

You will be introduced to variations that can take place to ensure that students are using AI appropriately.

Your Task…
  1. (06:02 - 23:40) Begin the video at 06:02
    1. (06:02) Classroom Policies.
    2. (08:04) AI Detectors.
    3. (08:59) Discussing AI with Students
    4. (09:50) Principles for Understanding AI
    5. (10:58) Using Large Language Models with Students
    6. (22:03) Final Thoughts

Resources…Consider using items from the professor’s document to explore how AI can be leveraged in your class.

Evidence of Learning...
In a short paragraph or two, reflect on this task:
  • In what ways might you (or another instructor) approach the use of AI [ex. generate ideas, use as tutor, get feedback, writing companions, explain why quiz answers were right and wrong].
  • Consider the ethics that surround the use of AI in your classroom.  What principles might you need to use to avoid the pitfalls of students using AI to complete tasks.

Part 3C: Beyond the Episode:

In this Task…
You will explore the use of AI detectors.

Explore AI Content Detectors:
  1. https://copyleaks.com/ai-content-detector
  2. https://writer.com/ai-content-detector/
  3. Others??
Your Task…
  1. After using ChatGPT from Part 1, copy and paste some generated text from ChatGPT into one of the “AI Detectors” listed above. What happened??
  2. Next, copy and paste non-ChatGPT text (maybe from a website, etc) to compare results.
Evidence of Learning...
In a short paragraph or two, reflect on this task:
  • REFLECT on how using various AI detectors work and how you might utilize it in your work.
  • Feel free to add a pic of the results
